Do you know why breakfast cereals?

Today, we have breakfast cereals thanks, or unfortunately, another of the achievements of the food industry and the work done by the brothers KelloggJohn Harvey Kellogg (1852 - 1943) and Will Keith Kellogg (1860 - 1951).

John Harvey Kellogg

Both founded in 1897 the company Sanitas Food Company, and spread with great success the idea that eating cereal at breakfast was healthy, when at that time, the traditional breakfast of the wealthy classes were eggs and meat (how awful!).

On the other hand, we are lucky that other of the great ideas of John Harvey Kellogg have not reached our days. For example, was a supporter of therapeutic use of enemas. One of their tools of choice was a device capable of injecting more than 50 litres in just a few seconds in the intestines of a patient.

John I thought also that the onanism it was a terrible sin, as stated in his work "Treatment for self-abuse and its effects", in which he describes different remedies to eliminate the sensory pleasures, such as the circumcision of children.

Finally the journey in common in Sanitas Food Company concluded. After some differences with his brother on add or not sugars in the grain, Will ended up starting in 1906 his own company, the Battle Creek Toasted Corn Flake Company, which eventually became the Kellogg's that we all know.

And the serious thing is that, today, we continue with breakfast cereals thinking they are healthy, when in reality they are the opposite, are not healthy despite being in the base of the food pyramid. It is the worst breakfast that we can do.

Contain a large amount of sugar and starch, low fiber, and cause high peaks of blood sugar and insulin in blood, one of the risk factors which favors the appearance of the type II diabetes.

This is why we encourage you to desayunes as it did before the onset of the brothers Kellogg, based eggs, vegetables, meat and fruit. Your health will thank you.
